About Us

Who are we ?

This site is geared towards those individuals wanting to know about how sports affect a community, and the impact they have on the individual. Here you can find information concerning local leagues around your area, as well as opportunities for volunteering in these leagues/athletic programs.

Although most people would not expect it, sports can play an important role in community building. Team sports like basketball and baseball encourage human connection, cooperation, coordination, communication skills with others on your team as well as with the opposition.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), youth who are involved in sports are less likely to experiment with drugs and alcohol or engage in other risky behavior. Furthermore, the general physical fitness that is promoted through sports may help some youths to avoid using drugs and prevent obesity. Finally, team sports teach players about conflict resolution and handling success and failure, all of which can assist them with everyday life.

In times when youth violence is prevalent in society, sports programs can provide a positive alternative to youths during their leisure time. By participating in team sports, kids are off the streets and away from other types of potentially dangerous activities. Teamwork and fair play also reinforce important values that may help keep them from engaging in violence against others.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) reported that over 1.5 million kids are arrested for committing crimes each year, and sports can keep them from engaging in delinquent activities. According to the HHS, the number of adolescents participating in team sports at least once a week increased by roughly 10% between 2000–01 and 2006–07 (from 18% to 28%).

Sports can also be beneficial for older adults who want to maintain physical and mental health. According to the National Council on Aging, many older adults participate in sports like golf and bowling for this very reason. Not only can such activities help improve balance and coordination (which are important for senior safety), but they can also enhance social relationships among seniors and keep them mentally sharp.
